Hiccup smiled as he unhooked himself from Toothless' harness and jumped down on the ground. They had been practicing more maneuvers and it seemed a good time for a rest. Back in the dragon's hiding place, Hiccup took the harness off the dragon before taking off his riding clothes.
Toothless shook himself and got a drink while Hiccup went and dragged out a basket of fish he has stored there the day before. He peeked inside, a little disappointed. He pulled out the three remaining fish, remarking, "Sorry pal, but only two for you today. I'll fish again tomorrow…"
Making a small fire, Hiccup settled down, feeling it as Toothless came up from his drinking and settled behind him. Sighing contentedly, Hiccup leaned back, against the dragon's side, waiting for the flames to die down so he could use the embers to cook his fish. Toothless was already eating his two fish, gulping them down whole, one gulp each.
Curiously, as he swallowed the second one, Hiccup leaned and put his ear against the dragon's side, listening. The powerful heartbeat came through, but at the same time, he heard the slick sound of the swallow, hearing it get magnified.
He laughed as he sat up, remarking as he prodded the flames, "You are noisy inside, you know that?" The dragon licked its chops, staring at him. Hiccup smiled and patted the black hide and got back to cooking his fish.
After a time, the dragon nudged him and made his hungry growl, but Hiccup pushed back. "No, no more fish." Toothless eyed the fish near the fire and Hiccup grabbed the spit it was on possessively. "Oh no, you've had your share already!" Sighing dramatically, Toothless lay down.
As the fire burned, Hiccup then turned his attention to other things. From the fish basket, he took out a small bundle. It was a large ball of sheep's wool and grabbing the saddle, began to clean off the blackened areas of charred leather, making them all clean again. The wool was good and stiff from all the sea-salty-air it was exposed to but was also gentle enough not to scratch the leather. It wasn't the best thing, but it would do for now and he was able to rinse it off easily with the water nearby.
Once the flames had died down, he put his fish to roast over the embers and finished cleaning the saddle. Idly, he went over Toothless with the wool-ball, scrubbing his neck. The dragon seemed to enjoy it, rumbling happily and rolling his head from side to side.
Soon, the fish was done and Hiccup began to gnaw on it, pausing to spit out scales now and again. They'd have to try position 4 more tomorrow. The artificial fin was sticking for some reason… He'd have to take it off and check for rust.
A large hunk of the fish fell off and into the fire and Hiccup glared at it. "Oh great… Terrific…"
His 'chair' suddenly moved and Hiccup fell over backwards as Toothless stood up and went right for the fire, snapping at the bit of fallen meat. Hiccup looked up in time to saw the dragon chomping a huge mouthful of the charcoal and he shouted, "Hey! Hey, what are you doing?! Stop that!" He wasn't worried about the dragon eating his fish, but rather about the hot coals. He had seen that dragons weren't fireproof inside.
The dragon ignored him and despite the boy pushing at his head, he chomped a few more mouthfuls of the hot charcoals before realizing the fish was long gone. He then withdrew and started to hack and blast fire at the ground. The taste was horrendous!
Hiccup sighed when he saw his fire was utterly ruined and Toothless was now discovering the delicious taste of charcoal! He had had it himself a few times in the shop when ashes from the billows would blow into his face. He sighed, knowing that the best way to get the charcoal out was to brush it away. Water couldn't rinse it out enough. The taste stayed FOREVER!
But then Hiccup saw the wool-ball by the saddle. "Oh wait a sec…." he murmured, crawling over and grabbing it. He looked at Toothless, who was now trying to bite tree branches to get rid of the taste. His teeth were spotted and black with the charcoal and even his tongue was all black.
Hiccup then clapped his hands to get the dragon's attention. "Come here, boy! Come on, Toothless." The dragon looked at him, all the while the forked tongue flicking in and out while the dragon smacked its lips. Hiccup nodded and sat down. "Yeah, that tastes pretty bad, huh? Come here and I'll fix it for you…"
Toothless looked a little doubtful at first, but then trudged over, sitting in front of Hiccup. Realizing the sitting down position wouldn't work since Toothless towered over him; Hiccup got to his knees and held up the wool-ball. Toothless instantly sniffled at it, licking it and then making a face. "This isn't food…" Hiccup confirmed when Toothless eyed it curiously and in a bit of distain.
Hiccup then used the wool ball to clean off the charcoal that was on the dragon's lips, almost indistinguishable from the black scales. If it weren't for the fact that the charcoal was more powdery than shiny, he couldn't have told any difference!
Seeing that the weird item wasn't going to hurt him, Toothless relaxed a bit and remained still.
Gently, Hiccup teased open the scaly lips, still rubbing with the wool. Toothless appeared surprised by this and withdrew his head, cocking it curiously.
"It's all right…" Hiccup said, showing the wool. "Just a little inner maintenance…" When Toothless only eyed him suspiciously, Hiccup sighed. He then opened his mouth and scrubbed his tongue with the wool, wincing at the bizarre taste but keeping his face neutral. "There? See? Now come here and open up…"
The dragon snorted, but then opened his mouth.
The blast of warm air that came out made Hiccup gag. The strong fish smell was FAR from pleasant, but he held down his bile and breathed deeply a few times. "Ohhh that's a good smell…"
The dragon's teeth were exposed and gently, Hiccup put on hand under the black chin and with the other, scrubbed at one tooth, cleaning it back to pure white. Toothless, realizing now what was going on, went limp and relaxed, his tail flopping idly from time to time.
Hiccup had to reach in pretty far to reach the back teeth, the angle making it a bit awkward. But even with his whole arm deep in the dragon's mouth, Toothless only watched him, his green eyes calm and curious.
Once all the teeth were clean, Hiccup washed the wool in the pond and then peered inside and sighed, realizing that the tongue and some of the flesh in the back was also still black. He reached with the wool and began to scrub the dragon's forked tongue. He was surprised at the reaction he got.
During the rest of the cleaning, Toothless had been settled, snorting from time to time and idly licking at his hand curiously. But as soon as the wool scrubbed at the slippery tongue, Toothless' eyes opened wide and he let out his happy-rumbling noise.
Hiccup paused, a little confused. "You… You like that?" He grinned and did it again, a little harder, and sure enough, Toothless wriggled in place, rumbling deep in his chest, his eyes closed in delight. It reminded him of the time he had discovered that the dragon adored to be scratched behind the head.
Smirking, Hiccup gently cleaned off the tongue of all the charcoal, but he was left with the throat. He didn't want to have to reach all the way back there, since it meant he would have to go DEEP inside. He trusted Toothless, but it was still an awkward and scary thought. But maybe he didn't have to?
He rinsed the wool again and then came back, surprised to find Toothless waiting with his jaws wide open, tail flopping happily. "All right, all right!" Hiccup laughed, kneeling. "Didn't know you like having your mouth rubbed…"
Curiously, Hiccup then reached in with his free hand and rested it on the dragon's tongue. He blinked, curious, while Toothless rumbled all the louder. "Wow…" He rubbed at the tongue, feeling the overall slippery texture. It reminded him of a fish fillet, all slimy and sticky. Then he experimented and rubbed his hand going from front to back. It was smooth and slippery and wet and amazingly hot. But when he pulled his hand back, rubbing from back to front, it scraped a little on the tongue, like sandpaper. "That's really neat…" he murmured, rubbing and scratching at the wet muscle, putting Toothless into near coma of joy. "Found another of your weak points…" He teased, scratching harder.
After a few minutes, he relented and straightened. "All right, Toothless. Can you clean the rest yourself?"
The dragon pondered this and shut his mouth and looked like he was concentrating. The dragon then shook his head and opened wide again. He had tried to lick it away, but the angles were all wrong and he hadn't been able to clean out anything.
Sighing, Hiccup then stripped off his heavy, wool coat. "Putting myself in a dragon's mouth… This will be the highlight of the day, I'm sure…" he muttered. After cleaning the wool again, he came and sighed while Toothless looked at him curiously. "Well, go on, open wide!"
The dragon obeyed and Hiccup winced a bit as the sight. He had been okay with it before, but now knowing how deep he'd have to go, it scared him a little. But with a sigh, he came forwards, murmuring, "Trusting you on this, buddy…" and stuck his arms inside.
Toothless reacted a little at this, but then relaxed, opening wider and retracting his teeth. This made it easier and Hiccup tried to put from his mind where he was and started to clean. But there were problems. With only his arms in, he couldn't see what he was doing and he still couldn't reach. His arms were all slimy and wet and he stank of fish now, but he knew that this wasn't enough.
He sighed. "Of course. Have to go in deeper." He then sighed and looked at the green eye. "Just don't mistake me for a fish, all right?"
Steeling himself, he ducked his head and pushed it into the dragon's mouth as he wriggled forwards. Toothless, though a bit confused at first, relaxed again and lowered his head slightly, making it easier. Hiccup got all the way in to having his chest in the dragon's mouth and he shivered at feeling the tongue through his shirt, moving from time to time. He sighed heavily and then reaching forwards, started to use the wool to scrub very gently at the backmost flesh.
Toothless shifted a little bit, but soon Hiccup's ears throbbed as that happy-rumbling noise echoed around him. He smiled and kept brushing, pleased to see that the charcoal was coming off nicely.
Hiccup suddenly shouted as the area changed around him. The near darkness made him nervous and he couldn't wriggle out to see what was happening. As suddenly as it started, it ended and he realized he wasn't kneeling anymore, but was lying down. Feeling hesitantly with his legs, he realized that Toothless had lain down on his front. Smiling, he rubbed at the tongue gently, saying, "Good thinking."
Now with Toothless lying down, the throat was much easier to access and Hiccup was able to scrub it clean. Toothless enjoyed the whole process, if his rumbles meant anything, and did not give Hiccup a single bit of trouble.
As he worked, Hiccup felt himself relaxing a bit. Sure, he was still a little scared, but it was diminishing as he familiarized himself with this odd place. The fish smell was still present, but he had gotten used to it and now it barely bothered him. The wetness and slime were also being tolerated. If anything, the wetness of the dragon's maw was warm, so he didn't mind. It felt kind of good, in a gross, dragon-y kind of way.
Oftentimes his face was squashed against the tongue as he scrubbed, but again, he found himself borderline enjoying the experience. He would smell horrific after this was finished, but it was warm, soft and he felt pretty all right with it.
Just as he felt he was finished, Hiccup saw one last patch, WAY in the back. He wriggled forwards a bit, feeling the ridge of the dragon's gums under his belly. He reached and tried to reach that last part and was barely able to. He scrubbed at it, but then shouted as he dropped the wool ball. "Ohhh, bad idea!"
He squirmed forwards, trying to get it. It had dropped down the curve of the dragon's neck, so he couldn't grab it. Hiccup reached forwards while Toothless questioned him with curious grunts. "Just don't move, or swallow!" Hiccup called out, pushing his hand blinding in front of him. His hand squeezed into the throat as he tried to find the wool and he noticed the flesh felt different. It felt firmer and smoother somehow and much hotter.
Outside, Toothless was noticing something.
First of all, he could feel the lump of damp cotton had rolled a bit down inside of him and he had swallowed lightly out of instinct without Hiccup realizing. Now as he felt Hiccup trying in vain to retrieve the wool, he realized that the human tasted… pretty nice, actually!
And those squirms… They reminded him of fish, the live ones that wriggled on the way down if he didn't bite them into chunks. He rumbled happily as he licked gently at the squirming creature in his mouth, being careful not to bite. He could feel the rubs deep in his mouth and he didn't want them to stop!
He lifted his head a little bit, unknowingly lifting Hiccup off the ground. He heard a few shouts at this, but they were muffled, so he didn't pay much attention. Instead, he licked more curiously at the warm body in his jaws. He was put off at first by the shirt, but once he managed to slip his tongue under it, the dragons shivered at being able to taste the human's soft-skinned belly.
He was used to the underside of animals being armored or furry, like other dragons or sheep, but this was something new! He licked again and heard muffled laughter. This was soft and delicate and it tasted amazing! He tasted sea salt, like for everything that grew by the ocean, but there was also a different kind of salt. A… warmer, gentler kind. He had never tasted it before and could not describe it.
Toothless blinked as he felt a push at the back of his throat. Hiccup was doing something odd inside, but at the same time, that shove had felt… oddly good. He wanted it again! Gently, Toothless tilted his head and used his tongue to drag the human in a little deeper, so that he could reach the back of his throat more easily. Maybe now he would get more of those wonderful rubs!
Hiccup shouted in surprise as he wriggled, his legs kicking fruitlessly in the air. He was squeezed a bit now as his arms and head were pushed back WAY further than he was comfortable with. He struggled, trying to work his way out, but the gums and scaly lips held him in place too firmly for him to move. "Ohh, this is NOT good!" he moaned aloud as he pushed again at the soft flesh.
As he was pulled in even deeper, Hiccup yelped as his arm disappeared down the curve of the dragon's throat. Due to the tightness, he could not bend his elbow enough to draw it back out and he called out, "Toothless, let me out of here!"
But all he heard were those happy rumblings and he realized what was going on. Toothless had enjoyed his mouth being rubbed and apparently he enjoyed it in his throat as well!
While a bit stunned that the dragon hadn't gagged yet, Hiccup sighed and with a great shudder, pushed his other arm down as well. This immediately eased the strain on his chest since he wasn't as squeezed anymore and he was able to focus on rubbing at whatever slippery flesh his fingers came across. "Such a weirdo…" he murmured as he scratched and rubbed as best he could.
The rumbles grew louder and Toothless murred around him, clearly enjoying. Hiccup kept rubbing for a while until his arms burned from use and then he went limp. "Okay, buddy, I'm tired… Let me out…"
But Toothless' tongue coiled around his middle as he tried to move back and he moaned aloud, "Oh COME ON! No more for today." But Toothless refused to let him out and Hiccup snapped, "No. I'm tired and want to come out!"
The rumbles were then replaced with a low moaning noise which Hiccup readily identified as Toothless' unhappy sound. "Hey, don't pull that on me!" he said, trying to wriggle backwards, his feet waving as they were kept out of contact with the ground.
The dragon moaned again, trying to entice his human to keep rubbing. He had never felt such a sensation like this before and he didn't want it to end so soon! He held the warm, fragile body gently in his jaws and moaned again. Hiccup went limp, sighing heavily and then Toothless murred happily as the rubs began again.
But now he noticed a bit of displeasure. The section being rubbed was taken care of already, but in deeper, it felt needy. It was like when you scratch one itch and it feels good, the next bit wants to be scratched, then the next and then the next! Toothless reached his tongue down and coiling it between the human's legs, tugged him in even deeper to reach the new, needy areas. He was surprised by how light the human felt and how skinny.
It was a good thing he hadn't followed this instincts that day and had killed and eaten Hiccup. He was so thin he wouldn't have been worth it!
He tipped his head back slightly, his mouth now closing on the thighs as he waited, his tail flopping in place eagerly.
Hiccup's sea-green eyes went huge in surprise as he felt the tongue coiling around him. "Whooooa, that's an invasion of privacy!" he said, trying hastily to squirm himself free, but there was no place to go!
Well, that wasn't true. There WAS a way… but it meant further into the slick, dark throat.
He wriggled as Toothless tipped his head back, the gums holding him firmly in place. He froze, his heart thumping, but relaxed when he heard the dragon moaning again. Hiccup sighed. "I should have known…" he grumbled as he started to rub at the new areas of flesh. As the dragon rumbled around him, he muttered to himself, "You scratch them once and they want it all over! Selfish things…" He then called out, "Yeah, you BETTER enjoy! Because I am NEVER going in this far AGAIN!"
He shouted as the angle changed as he realized he was now upside down. Toothless must have been looking straight up now, but was still holding him firmly so that he didn't even slide an inch. Sighing, he continued to rub, but then noticed something.
He could see nothing thanks to being in so far, but he could hear plenty. From the angle, it sounded like right below him was the steady pounding of the dragon's heart, the whooshing of his breathing. It was pretty interesting to hear and in a way, it helped Hiccup to feel a little bit better. After all, if he was in this far and was still alive, then it was clear Toothless just wanted the rubbing and wasn't planning to hurt him.
Toothless was just about to faint with joy. The rubs felt so wonderful! He had felt movement in his gullet before, when he had swallowed live fish, but this was different. This was long, continuous, delicious rubbings and scratchings that didn't end, or move down and disappear! This was the best sensation he could possibly experience!
He murred softly to himself as he felt himself teetering on the edge of joy-induced comatose. He could feel the weight and presence of Hiccup in his jaws and throat and the full feeling was amazing and yet different.
Once, when he had been smaller, he had managed to gulp down a huge fish, the stretchiness of his throat allowing this without choking himself. He had then known the utter joy of basking in the sun with a swollen belly. For a dragon, it was the equivalent of human heaven.
Hiccup wasn't as large in relation as the fish had been, but somehow, it felt just as good. Just as Toothless had trusted the human not to hurt him, he could feel that Hiccup was trusting the dragon not to hurt him. It was a deep, powerful feeling that burned right into the fiery core of the dragon and he murred deeply, his green eyes sliding shut as he enjoyed the odd sensation.
But then things went wrong.
Hiccup scratched and rubbed all around as best as he could, knowing that the sooner he had pleased Toothless, the sooner he could convince the dragon to let him out and then he could bathe before returning to the village and hopefully not stink so terrible of fish anymore.
Wriggling forwards slightly, Hiccup went to scratch at one last area before he called it quits. His fingers teased the areas gently, his nails doing nothing to harm the strong flesh except to stretch it slightly and make the sensation feel terrific. He knew he couldn't hurt Toothless from inside like this. Deeming he had done enough, Hiccup reached out for one last rubbing calling out, "Okay, you've had your fun! Now let me--"
The instant his fingers scratched at that last area of flesh, Toothless froze up around him and without another warning, Hiccup shouted as he heard a powerful gulp and felt himself squeezed tightly and then forced down along the slippery, dark gullet.
Unknowingly, he had just done inside the dragon's throat what he was able to do to the outside of it; rub at various points until the last one caused the dragon to collapse.
Hiccup shouted as he was shoved downwards, the flesh hot and slippery and tight against him despite his kicks and struggles. He heard the pounding of the dragon's heart getting closer and he cried out fearfully, "TOOTHLESS!"
The dragon didn't realize what had just transpired. All that could penetrate his hazy, joyous mind was that the rubs had continued to the point where that one final scratch had sent him over the edge, just like when Hiccup scratched under his jaw! It was wonderful! His jaw worked separately from his mind, gulping something down inside of him as he flumped to the ground, rolling around in delight.
Toothless murred as he felt something large and wriggling sliding down his gullet and he rolled to his back a bit to help it slide inside of him easily.
Then he heard the muffled calling of his name and all of the good-feeling vanished.
Blinking, the dragon grunted in surprise and then concentrated, murring in contentment as he felt the human slide deep into his crop. Focusing, he was able to relax the rest of his system, which allowed him to keep Hiccup there, preventing him from going all the way into his belly, which would have killed him either by the sheer heat or the acids.
His chest was a bit swollen from the bulge inside of it now and a part of him disliked the pressure it put on his heart and lungs, telling him to shove it down to his stomach. But he refused and after a while, the sensation went away and he was able to comfortably stand up, shaking his wings free of dirt.
He then felt the first of the movements inside of his crop but this time, they didn't make him feel good. He could feel that Hiccup was scared and he went still, trying to think of how to show the human he didn't mean for this to happen and that he would be safe.
"Oh Odin…" Hiccup gulped hard a couple of times to try and stop himself from freaking out. He had been squeezed tightly along a tight tube but then had entered a sizeable chamber. It wasn't very big and for once, he blessed his non-Viking-like stature since it allowed him to curl up to the point that he was only moderately stretching the area.
He shoved a couple of times, panting hard. "Toothless… Buddy, PLEASE! Let me out!" He was shaking terribly, scared to death and he could only suffer in silence, hearing the powerful heartbeats around him in response to his plea.
It was very slimy in here, he noticed idly. The slime was thick and gooey and it clung to every part of him. Not to mention it stank terribly of raw, semi-digesting fish.
He shivered hard as he pushed again, his efforts seeming having no effect on the dragon. "Come on…" he pleaded quietly, knowing he had neither the strength nor any sort of advantage to get Toothless to obey him.
Why would he do this to him?! Was it because he had crippled him? Cut off his tail-fin?
But he had fixed it! He had helped him to fly again! And the dragon had never shown any indication before of being mad at him! Why had he eaten him?
Or had he?
Hiccup's mind suddenly started to work again now that his terror had semi-worn off and he was able to realize several facts: One, he was still alive. He hadn't been chewed to bits. Two, while it was hot in here, it wasn't anywhere near rock-melting temperatures, so he was safe from being roasted. Dragon's bellies were fire-pits and melted anything instantly. They had to, since most dragons would swallow rocks and melt them inside for fire fuel. Three…
He touched the side of the chamber again, but this time more curiously and a memory floated back to him.
When he had been little, he had watched it once as his father had killed a Nadder that had tried to conduct a raid by itself. Hiccup, only 5 at the time, had watched in slight revolution as well as unbridled curiosity as the Nadder was killed and then butchered for its meat by the village.
Wanting to share his dragon-lore with his son, Stoick had called him over and shown him the innards of the dragon, pointing out the stomach and when Hiccup reached curiously to touch it, he didn't stop him, letting him learn a bit of Viking knowledge. The flesh of the stomach had felt rough and hard to Hiccup's fingers as his father explained that it was rough because it had to endure such heat and melting steel and rocks. The Vikings used the stomach lining for use in the smith shops. It was wrapped around delicate objects to be heated and then held in the flames, allowing for expert tempering of decorative emblems or signs.
The crop however was much different and as Hiccup felt the soft, almost velvety surface, Stoick explained that the mother dragons carried their fish home to their little ones and that they would keep the fish safe in their crops so that it would be good food for the little dragons.
The flesh that Hiccup was feeling now was slippery, squishy and so very soft, like velvet. He felt a few tears of relief roll down his cheek as he realized where he was.
Looking up, Hiccup was a little startled to hear the moaning of the unhappy dragon around him, the volume of it rattling his bones. He smiled weakly as things came together. Toothless hadn't meant for this to happen and had done what he could to keep the small human safe! And now he was worried about him!
Smiling weakly, he rubbed at the wall and at the startled, confused grunt, he shouted, "I'm okay, boy… Scared out of my mind, but okay."
He tensed up reflexively as he was squeezed, but then heard the happy rumbles and grinning, began to rub more and more. This was apparently a new level of delight for Toothless as he murred and called out in delight, apparently rolling around of the shifting of gravity meant anything!
After a while though, Hiccup spoke up again. "Toothless." The dragon went silent, listening. "I want to come out." The dragon warbled quietly and Hiccup smiled as he recognized the tone; the tone of someone who knew that had done something wrong and that punishment was now on its way. It seemed universal, from people to dragons!
Gently, he rubbed the wall, saying, "No, I know it was a mistake! I felt that. I'm not mad." There was a questioning grunt and he rubbed gently. "I promise I'm not mad."
Toothless did the dragon equivalent of wincing as he heard Hiccup want to come out. He knew what this meant.
Since Hiccup could not physically punish the dragon in any way, shape or form, he had instead worked out a solution: if the dragon disobeyed or misbehaved, Hiccup simply wouldn't fly with him.
The dragon sighed. He didn't like not flying. It wasn't any fun.
He perked up however, as he felt the delicious rubs within and heard Hiccup say he wasn't mad. He rumbled in delight as he felt a few more rubs and then sighed. He knew he had to try and fix this problem now.
Standing up, Toothless lowered his head and with a very practiced moment, began to hack, squeezing his crop and expelling the contents. Hiccup's size made the dragon a little bit uncomfortable, since he had only ever done this with bits of fish before, not something whole and alive and wriggling.
The sudden tightness scared Hiccup at first and he was even more frightened as he felt himself squeezed along to someplace, unable to tell direction in the darkness. He started to wriggle, concerned, but then realized that the heartbeats were going away from him. Realizing he was indeed being let out, he forced himself to go still, shaking slightly out of instinct as he was slathered all over in thick, clingy slime and ooze.
In an amazingly short amount of time, however, Hiccup felt himself splash into something that prickled and shocked him. He screamed for an instant, his mind conjuring up images of a belly full of molten fire, but then he realized how bright it was around him and that the 'prickling' he had felt was goosebumps from cold.
Opening his eyes, he blinked in the seemingly blinding light and realized that Toothless had spat him out into the shallow end of the pond. He sat up, shivering from the cold and then looked down at himself. He was coated with a faint yellow ooze that dripped and slopped off of him in gooey strings and the stench was all but making him throw up.
He heard a warble and looking up saw the dragon's face very close, sniffing at him curiously, the green eyes worried. Hiccup smiled and raised a slimy hand. He paused. "Oh wait…" He then rinsed it off and then touched the warm, scaly nose. Toothless, seeing that all was forgiven, pounced on him and began to lick him.
Fortunately, the water was shallow, so Hiccup was in no danger of drowning and he struggled playfully as his face was licked and sloppy dragon-saliva added to the mess he was already coated in. "Okay, okay, all right!" Pushing Toothless off of him, Hiccup then moved out into deeper water and began to strip down, washing his clothes and then himself.
Now wearing only his now-clean breeches, Hiccup leaned back against the dragon as his other clothes dried next to a new fire. Toothless was curled up around the small human in his sleep, the tail flopped heavily over the legs, but Hiccup didn't mind. He caressed the tail for a while and then leaned back on the scaly side of the dragon, sighing.
From behind, he heard faint grumbles from the dragon's belly and curious, he turned and rested his ear against the warm skin. He heard a few more growls, but soon those were ignored as he focused on the heartbeats and the breathing. They sounded fainter when he listened this way…
Smirking to himself, Hiccup drew back his legs from under the tail and all but snuggled against the dragon's side, relaxing as he let the heartbeats fill his ears.
Toothless woke up as he felt movement against his side and looked, curious. Hiccup was sleeping against his side, cuddled up and looking calm and happy. The dragon warbled softly to himself and settling down again, curled up a little tighter, the tail coming around and the single fin laying gently over the human to keep him warm.
It had been an interesting day.
